Agriculture
Phaeton-Agro, Ltd. is a large agribusiness holding. The enterprise was founded in 2003 as part of Phaeton Holding Company. Initially the holding company included three Leningrad Region enterprises: Verevo, joint stock company (Gatchina District), Ostrogovitsy,joint stock company (Volosovo District), and Udarnik, joint stock company (Volosovo District). In 2005-2006 three more businesses joined: Satis, Ltd. and SPK Yam-Tesovo (both of Luga District) and Koporye, CC (Lomonosov District). In 2008 the holding company was joined by five business in Makshinsky District of Penza Region. Bringing together the assets of these agricultural companies allowed to organize a centralized supply and sales system for ready products.
As of today Phaeton-Agro consists of a managing company and five agribusinesses in Leningrad Region, as well as five agribusinesses in Penza Region. The agricultural holding company focuses on dairy farming, plant farming, and wholesale of cattle feed.
The priority directions of Phaeton - Agro development include:
1. Expanding the business geography. In particular, the Company plans to acquire farms in Tver Region, with the total area of 30,000 hectares. The Company plans to invest some RUR 560 mln into the business and bring the total number of cattle to 9,500. Similar projects will be completed in Pskov, Novgorod, Voronezh, Volgograd, Orenburg and other regions.
2. Upgrading its facilities, Phaeton-Agro focuses on improving quality and expanding the assortment of products, as well as develops own brands.
Dairy farming
The Company owns 12 dairy farms with a total number of over 8,000 heads, of which 4980 are milking cows. Phaeton-Agro is one of the leaders of raw milk market in Leningrad Region. 100% of the produced milk are of highest grade quality. Today the Company is working to achieve the Euro standard of milk products. To this end, the Company has introduced the food product safety management system, based on ISO 22000 standard. The Company has won numerous diplomas and prizes at annual White Nights Exhibition of Pedigree Animals.
In 2006-2007, within the program of Agricultural Development National Project, the Company reconstructed Yablonitsy Cattle Farm (Ostrogovitsy, joint stock company), and in the end of 2007 plans to complete Sosnitsy, a new farm Udarnik. These projects required a total of RUR 1.2 bln in investments. The major consumers of the products include large dairy factories in St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region – Gatchina Dairy Factory and Petmol, joint stock company (members of Unimilk).
Plant farming
Plant farming focuses on three directions – potato farming, field vegetable farming and grain farming, as well as cattle feed manufacturing. The total area of agricultural lands is 24,000 hectares, of which 18,000 hectares are plough land. The Company pays considerable attention to modern technologies, improving the crop rotation and renovating the equipment of agribusiness enterprises. The holding uses numerous foreign agricultural machines, such as JF Stohl tractors, Crohne and Pottinger croppers and Grimme potato harvesters.
In 2004 and 2005 Verevo, joint stock company earned the title of the best agribusiness company in Gatchinsky District of Leningrad Region for “attaining excellent results in plant farming.”
Wholesale Feed Sales
In 2007 the Company began work on a new business direction: cattle feed (fodder grain, sunflower cake, and beet pulp). The major consumers include large cattle feed factories of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region.
